Jesus is God

Jesus is God - “My Father and I are one.” Jhn 10:30

To me this sounds like a clear statement, but many say that Jesus was only saying he and the father are one in purpose or thinking, or something like that; that sounds good, but consider the reaction of the religious leaders who heard what Jesus said:

“My Father and I are one”. Again the Jews took up stones to stone Him. Jesus answered them, “I have shown you many good works from My Father. For which of those works do you stone Me?” The Jews answered Him, “We are not stoning You for a good work, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, claim to be God.” Jhn 10:30-33

Then notice Jesus’ response when he sees them getting ready to kill him. He does not say, “Wait, I did not mean that I am God, I meant such and such.”

He did not say that, instead, hear what he says, “Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods” If He called them ‘gods,’ to whom the word of God came, and the Scripture cannot be broken, do you say of Him, whom the Father has sanctified and sent into the world, ‘You blaspheme,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’? Jhn 10:34-36

Jesus affirms that he is claiming to be God; he affirms that they heard and understood him correctly.

This is not the only place where Jesus made clear statements that he is God. I am not referring to the Bible saying Jesus is God, but places were he himself says he is God.

“So the Jews persecuted Jesus and sought to kill Him, because He had done these things on the Sabbath day. Jesus answered them, “My Father is working still, and I am working.” So the Jews sought even more to kill Him, because He not only had broken the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.”

Jhn 5:16-18

The Jews understood that when Jesus said “my Father” he was saying that God was his father is a unique way, and therefore he was also God. Yes, each of us can say we are God’s child by virtue of he being the Creator, but the Jews understood something entirely different: they understood Jesus was saying that he was fully God, equal in God-ness with the Father, and since they considered that blasphemy, which was a capital crime punishable by death, they sought to kill him.

Later when Jesus was on trial before the high priest, a time when if he was not God, he would have clearly said so, listen to the exchange: “The high priest said to Him, “I adjure You by the living God, tell us whether You are the Christ, the Son of God.” Jesus said to him, “You have said so. And I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power (the all powerful One) and coming on the clouds of heaven.” Then the high priest tore his clothes, saying, “He has uttered blasphemy. What further need do we have for witnesses? See, now you have heard His blasphemy. They answered, “He is guilty unto death.” Mat 26:63-66

Jesus hears them say, “He is guilty unto death,” and what does he say? He never says, “Wait! You mis-understood me! I am not claiming to be God! Why do always think I am claiming to be God, I am not saying that!”

Why does he not say something like that? Because they did not mis-understand him, that is exactly what he meant; he was continually telling them plainly, “I am God.”

So Jesus is either a liar or he is crazy or he is telling the truth; but one thing is certain, he clearly said, “I am God.”

See Blog #3, about Jesus saying “I Am”.

Think about this: If Jesus really is God, as he clearly claimed to be, you are making the biggest mistake of your life, of your eternity, if you do not believe in him!
