Martin Luther said that if we avoid the important issues of our day, IE not address them and hide from dealing with them, we are being unfaithful.

So that I am not accused of unfaithfulness, dodging the issue, this Blog will be on “Gender” and the next will be on “Sex.”

I will use “gender” to refer to male and female, and “sex,” to refer to sexual activity.

“Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness, … So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” Gen 1:26-27

“Then the LORD God formed man (the male) from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living being.” Gen 2:7

“Then the LORD God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone. I will make him a helper suitable for him … So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept. Then He took one of his ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man, He made into a woman (the female), and He brought her to the man.”

Gen 2:18, 21-22

First God declares his intention to make human kind: “Let us make man in our image.”

This is not God talking to himself, as we do, this is God, in his Tri-Unity (Father-Son-Holy Spirit) having a conversation within himself, among himself; he says “we”. He makes us privy to an inter-Trinitaian conversation. There are only a few places in Scripture were God tells us what is said among the persons of the Trinity; this conversation is a big deal!

The words “male” and “female” are God's words!

Then God, and I would say the pre-incarnate 2nd person of the Trinity, the Lord Jesus, makes both Adam and Eve, with his own hands: making Adam from dirt and Eve from one of Adam's ribs.

This is not a myth; this is not figurative; this is what really happened, in real time, with real molecules, with real dirt, and with a real rib, human bone.

He made their bodies, the external parts (male and female genitalia), and the internal organs (testicles and ovaries, etc), the hormones, and the hormonal balance particular to each gender. He did not just think about doing it, he did not just design the parts, he made them with his own hands.

And the Lord Jesus affirms this saying, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning made them male and female?” Mat 19:4

I don’t see how things can be clearer: there is a male gender, and a female gender, only two (2), thought up by God, designed by God, and made by God.

This is what the bible clearly says. To deny this, is to deny the obvious; to fight against it, is to fight against God. On a personal level, to be dis-satisfied with your gender, is to be dis-satisfied with God’s plan for your life, it is being dis-satisfied with who he made you to be.

And note, it is the 2 genders together, 2 sides of the same coin, or 2 halves of one sphere that makes Mankind. It is this male-female totality that reflects God. One gender only, whether males only or females only, would not be Mankind, and so would not reflect God. As God is multi-personal, and therefore relational in his Tri-Unity, so he made Mankind to be the same.

God is good, his purposes toward us are good, he did not make us male and female for evil intentions, to do us bad.

That was the Original Lie of the devil: “For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” Gen 3:5

His lie to Eve was that God is withholding good from you, so God himself is not good.

He is using the same lie today regarding the gender issue. He, the devil, is saying, “God made you a male or female, whichever you are, but he did wrong to you in making that, he is denying you happiness, you will be happy if you are the other.”

But, the devil is always and only ever a liar! Jesus said the devil was the father of lies.

“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” Joh 8:44

And note, Jesus also said the devil was a murderer from the beginning, he murdered Adam and Eve with one lie; and he is still the same; he tries to murder us with lies, the lie being:

“Happiness is over there! You will be happy if you are the other gender!”

You can change your body with surgery, you can employ hormone therapy, but you cannot change who you are, the person you are. You are who you are, you will always be who you are, and so will I.

The important point is that regardless of whether our body parts are male or female, as individual human beings, we are each an image bearer of God; we each have the same intrinsic worth in God’s eyes; one gender is not better or worse than the other, we just have different functions, different assigned roles, designed by him, so that his creation can work in an harmonious way, like a well oiled machine, as he intended and designed and made it to be.

It really is not too complicated at all, it is the devil who has sown the seeds of confusion, just like he did with Eve, “Did God really say?”

Can we be happy fighting against God? I don't think so; “our arms are too short to box with him!”
