The Book of Revelation  #10 Jesus is also the Source of the Holy Spirit

The Book of Revelation  #10 – Jesus is also the Source of the Holy Spirit

“Then he showed me a pure river of the water of life, a clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb” Rev 22:1

I believe this river is the Holy Spirit, proceeding from the Throne of God and the Lamb.

The spirit is expressly said to come from the father and the son, as the Nicene Creed so clearly states:  “I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.”

He is often referred to as water.

“Truly, truly I say to you, unless a man is born of water even (και means “and” or “but” or “even”) the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.”  Jhn 3:5

“On the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart shall flow rivers of living water. By this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believe in Him would receive. For the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.” Jhn 7:37-39

We see the oneness of the Trinity (which means = Tri-Unity), as we see the Holy Spirit proceeding from both the Father and the Son.

This was the “Filioque Controversy,” which the Nicene Creed addressed.

So, what does the Holy Spirit do in heaven?

He is the life giving force of heaven, watering heaven and providing healing (life giving) leaves from the tree of life; and not just heaven, the universe, the cosmos.

“Indeed, the water that I shall give him will become in him a well of water springing up into eternal life.” Jhn 4:14

Life, life, life: that is the Holy Spirit, and that is why in the Nicene Creed calls him “the Lord and giver of life.”

He is the Lord of life in that he is the fountain head of life, the source.

“For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.” Psa 36:9

“And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.” Rev 21:6

He is the giver of life, in that he actually gives life; he does not possess it simply within himself, and for himself, he gives it away!

He is the one who re-generates people.  Re-generate = born-again; it is he imparting life to dead sinners.

“That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” Jhn 3:6-8

Here is Rev 22 he is shown to be a river that never dries up, who flows (proceeds) from the Father and the Son forever, imparting life to we the inhabitants of heaven, “externally” via the tree of life, and as the one living in our hearts, he is a spring of living water, springing up from within us, imparting life to us “internally”.

And he proceeds from both the father and the son.
